So much can be written about Crater Lake. Most people see the main viewpoint, perhaps a few nearby and think they've seen it all.

Crater Lake park is a vast wilderness unto itself with diverse and unique ecosystems. On the back side are some very desolate areas that feel like being transported hundreds of miles into the backbone of the Cascades.

This site is roughly one mile to the south of the lodge on a very steep outcropping. The rim itself is a cliff that can be at once exhilarating and dangerous, as this tour shot illustrates. On the lake side is an 800-foot drop straight down, so it was a bit tricky to take this shot. Phantom ship AND Wizard Island can be seen from this viewpoint.
